Fast is fun

The Val 35 cruiser-racer or better racer-cruiser was the first fast-boat conceptualized specifically for its speed over water, and not in rated seconds per mile.

Based on their racing experience in both the Adriatic and the Atlantic (e.g. the highly competitive La Rochelle area), J&J aimed to design a boat that was fast in all conditions and rating systems—and was affordable and easy to build. They designed well-balanced heeled waterlines with good volume in the bow, and an open cockpit with space for crew or family. Just enough interior to be comfortable for passengers, and a 10.65 m boat with less than 3 T of empty displacement with a sandwiched hull and deck but no exotic (i.e. expensive) high-level composite technology.

An easily adjustable rig and generous sail area helped the Val 35 win many races in the Mediterranean and Atlantic while also giving families a good summer vacation at the same time. In England, most races on this yacht were won by the Scottish sailing legend Bill Mackay. Over time, the Val 35 model saw many modifications and versions, including adaptations made for sailing schools. And even four decades later, she is still winning races today...
